Winter Things to Do Near Glacier Park
Every year, Mountain Meadow closes on October 1st but that doesn’t mean the fun stops in Northwest Montana. Looking for fun winter activities near Glacier National Park and throughout the Flathead Valley? Here’s a helpful list of some of our favorites:
- Snowshoe, hike or cross country ski in Glacier
The Sun Road closes at Lake McDonald Lodge once the snow gets too high but outdoor enthusiasts see this as a perfect time to explore the park without the crowds. Take a walk up the sun road or up Camas Road for an isolated wintery experience.
- Ski or take a chairlift ride up Big Mountain at Whitefish Mountain Resort.
For a more organized day on the snow, visit Whitefish Mountain Resort for over 3000 acres of snow-filled terrain. Ski and snowboard rentals, day passes and scenic lift tickets are available in the base lodge.
- Cozy Up in the Flathead Valley
The Flathead Valley is home to a wide-array of shopping, entertainment and nightlife opportunities. From restaurants and breweries to art galleries and Montana made shops head into Columbia Falls, Whitefish, Kalispell or Bigfork for a taste of winter in Northwest Montana.
- Go Ice Skating
In Whitefish – Open skate at the Stumptown Ice Den offers indoor skating opportunities. You may even catch a hockey or curling match while you’re there.
In Kalispell – Visit the Woodland Ice Center for an outdoor rink surrounded by Montana’s natural beauty.
