Summer Activities to Stay Cool

The days are dryer and temperatures are rising, which means we are all are looking for summer activities to stay cool during this heat wave. Thankfully for the guests staying at Mountain Meadow RV Park in Hungry Horse, Montana, you’ll be surrounded with family-friendly activities and located just minutes from summer fun.

1. Float the Flathead Rivers

West Glacier is ten minutes from Mountain Meadow RV Park. In West Glacier, you can choose from four professional raft companies to guide you down the Flathead River: Glacier Raft Company, Great Northern Rafting, Wild River, or Montana Raft. On a hot day, there is nothing that will cool you down quicker than a few splashes from the glacier-fed water of the Middle Fork. Not to mention, a float through Bone Crusher and Jaws (rapids) will leave you and the family filled with memories for a lifetime.

* After your Middle Fork Float, be sure to check with your raft company for photos taken of your raft trip party by Mountain Photography.

2. Rent a Paddle Board on Lake McDonald

A few splashes from the thrilling rapids of the Flathead River will surely cool you down, but if you are looking for a more mellow cool-down experience visit Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park. The calm, chilly waters provide a place for paddle boarding, floating or swimming. Glacier Outfitters in Apgar and Glacier Park Boat Company provide safety gear and water vessels for your Lake McDonald adventure.

3. Big Sky Waterpark

Sometimes we need to be a kid again, and Big Sky Waterpark is a perfect place to do that. At Montana’s largest waterpark, visitors get to enjoy ten waterslides, a whirlpool, kid’s activity pool, mini golf, bumper cars and more! Grab the family and head down to Columbia Falls for a fun-packed day at the waterpark.

4. Souvenir Shopping

Still too hot? Head down into Hungry Horse and over to West Glacier to peruse through the air-conditioned gift shops. While browsing for glacier souvenirs and gifts, look for authentic Made in Montana products.

5. Ice Cream

If the glacier-fed waters didn’t cool you down and the air-conditioned gift shops were only a temporary fix, try cooling yourself down by filling your belly with huckleberry ice cream. Not only will the frozen treat soothe your overheated body, but the delicious, unique flavors will also please your tastebuds. Huckleberries grow wild in the forests and are hand-picked by locals.

After your day of waterparks, rafting, shopping, and sweet treats head back to Mountain Meadow RV Park for a peaceful sunset on the Meadow. As the sun sets behind Columbia and Teakettle Mountains and the temperatures mellow, you’ll be happy to look back on your fun-filled day in Glacier Country.

Note: Rafting, floating or swimming in the creeks, rivers, and lakes can be dangerous. Water is cold, moves fast and nearby rocks are slippery. Use extreme caution! Please check with a professional before partaking in any water sports and be sure to have proper safety gear. Always wear a lifejacket and helmet.
