West Glacier is a quaint village located in Northwest Montana, about 11 miles northeast of Mountain Meadow RV Park in Hungry Horse. Visit Glacier National Park

It is hard to imagine anyone traveling to West Glacier and not visiting Glacier National Park. If you're here, you have to go into the park known as the Crown of the Continent. West Glacier is one of the far west entrances to Glacier National Park and the Going to the Sun Road making it a perfect starting place for a self-guided Glacier tour. Take a day, or two weeks, to explore Glacier and all it has to offer. Hiking, wildlife watching, whitewater rafting, and nature tours are just some of the activities available in Glacier. Glacier National Park truly is an outdoor enthusiasts dream. With over 1 million acres of varying terrain, there is no shortage of things to do and places to discover.

Food Near Glacier

Coming from St. Mary on the Going to the Sun Road means you’ve probably had an epic but long day of driving the Sun Road and exploring Glacier National park. In addition to being a useful starting point, West Glacier is an ideal ending to a Glacier Park adventure. It offers everything needed to leave you feeling refreshed from a long day, especially some restaurants serving delectable food.

The Belton ChaletThe Belton Chalet on Highway 2 was built in 1910 by the Great Northern Railway. The old building mixes a historic atmosphere with great food. Watching the train roll through town from the balcony of the Belton Chalet feels nostalgic and is free entertainment with your meal and drinks.

Wandering GringoTacos, burritos, and more — the Wandering Gringo is a go-to Mexican food truck for both locals and tourists. Located off Highway 2, the bright orange food truck is hard to miss. Enjoy your food on the picnic tables overlooking Glacier National Park.

Golfing Near Glacier

With views of Glacier National Park, Glacier View Golf Course is a truly spectacular 18-hole, 69 par golf course to enjoy while on vacation. With lush rough and small greens, Glacier View Golf Course offers a challenging round of golf to those who are up for the fun challenge.

Farmer's Market

Amid Summer, West Glacier offers a Friday night Farmer's Market. From 3p to 6p peruse through the booths for local, handmade crafts, gifts, pies, and fresh huckleberries! Don't delay; the baked goods and berries go quick!

Gas Station

If you are heading into Glacier Park, remember to fuel up before leaving West Glacier. There are no fuel stations along the Going to the Sun Road until you reach St. Mary, the east side entrance. The Going to the Sun Road is 50 miles long and climbs over 3,000 feet in elevation; you’ll want a full tank of gas for the ride (and lots of snacks and water). 

Gas stations are available at Glacier Highland, across from the Belton Depot, and at Calumet Montana Refining, in front of Glacier Raft Company.

Glacier Tour Pickups

The Sun Tours provided by the Blackfeet and the Red Bus Tours ran by Xanterra have Glacier tour pickups near West Glacier. Call ahead for a tour ticket and the exact pickup location for either one of these remarkable Glacier National Park tours. 

Middle Fork River Access

The Middle Fork of the Flathead River runs beneath the Going to the Sun Road. Access the river below the Sun Road Bridge, at the Old Belton Bridge, or the West Glacier River Access near the golf course. The Flathead Rivers are pristine, cold, and have swift currents. Consult a professional for proper safety gear before rafting, swimming, or fishing in the water.
